The pairing of chocolate and strawberries evokes feelings of romance, creating a delightful culinary experience.
However, purchasing them can often be quite pricey.
Fortunately, I’ve discovered a simple (and tasty) method to prepare them that is budget-friendly.
Instructions for Making Chocolate Covered Strawberries for Valentine’s Day

You’ll require the following ingredients:
- Fresh Strawberries
- Chocolate Chips (choose semisweet or dark)
- Cupcake Liners
- Optional: Cooking Oil (like peanut, canola, or vegetable)
TIP: Since strawberries may not be in peak season, finding those with robust flavor might be challenging. I suggest picking up the package and taking a whiff from the holes at the bottom. If they smell strong, they will likely taste great. A lack of aroma usually indicates a lack of flavor.
Melt the chocolate: Place a good amount of chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl (glass is preferable for an even melt). Heat in the microwave for two minutes at 50% power. Stir, then return the bowl to the microwave, heating in 30-second intervals at 50% power until fully melted, stirring between each. If the chocolate is too thick, add about 1/4 teaspoon of oil to thin it out without turning it into a sauce.
Coat the strawberries: Hold a strawberry by its leaves, using a spoon (a soup spoon works well) to scoop a hefty amount of melted chocolate. Pour the chocolate over the front of the strawberry in a left-to-right motion. Make sure there’s enough chocolate in the spoon to also roll the back of the strawberry in it for a complete coating. This method may take a bit of practice but will result in a better coat and a nice swirl effect on the front. If you’re using a deeper bowl with more chocolate, traditional dipping could work just as effectively.
Let them cool: Place the chocolate-covered strawberries on wax paper and, if desired, add sprinkles on top. For a fancier touch, drizzle some melted white or dark chocolate on top for an elegant accent.
Presentation: After the chocolate has set, arrange them in cupcake liners and store them in the refrigerator to chill.

Enjoy your creation!

I enjoy making chocolate covered strawberries as a special treat for family and friends. We’ve even prepared them for everyone in our small church congregation on Valentine’s Day. We’ve discovered that doing it ourselves, as you mentioned, is quite economical!
