Rice Krispie Treats in the Shape of Apples

As autumn arrives, it’s the perfect time to celebrate apple season. If you’re homeschooling and looking to infuse some creativity into your learning, or simply wish to whip up a fun snack, these apple-shaped Rice Krispie treats will be a hit.
My children are fond of surprises like these, as marshmallows, candy, and fruit roll-ups are rarely included in our everyday menus.
(Makes approximately 18 treats)
INGREDIENTS
– 6 cups Rice Krispies Cereal
– 4 tablespoons Butter
– 10.5 ounces Marshmallows
– Red Food Coloring
– Green Food Coloring
– 3 Tootsie Roll Midgees
– Green Fruit Roll-Ups

DIRECTIONS
1. Halve each Tootsie Roll, then further cut each piece into four strips lengthwise to create 8 stems.
2. Slice the fruit roll-ups to form small leaves to adorn the apples.
3. In a medium saucepan, melt 2 tablespoons of butter on low heat.
4. Incorporate half of the marshmallows, stirring until fully melted.
5. Add about 15 drops of red food coloring, mixing thoroughly.
6. Stir in 3 cups of cereal until well combined.
7. Remove from heat and allow to rest for about 3 minutes.
8. Use buttered hands or wax paper to firmly shape the mixture into 9 balls.
9. Insert a stem into each ball and mold into an apple shape.
10. Place the roll-up leaves next to the stems if desired.
11. Repeat these steps with the remaining ingredients to create green apple versions.
