Boulevardia: Beer, Music, Local Art & Bacon!

Boulevardia is an annual celebration held in the Kansas City region, showcasing a vibrant mix of beer, delicious food, live music, and local artistry. While many attendees rave about the beer, my son and I had our hearts set on something else: BACON!

Every year, our first destination at Boulevardia is the Farmland Bacon Club tent. Get ready to salivate, as the mouthwatering scent of sizzling bacon fills the air for blocks around.

The celebration is undeniably all about bacon, with plenty of like-minded enthusiasts flocking to the tent. Whether your preference is for crispy or chewy, there were abundant samples available. My son kicked off his experience with a crunchy piece before heading to the main stage for the Farmland Bacon Eating Contest.

While he indulged in bacon samples, I explored the rest of the Farmland tent. I particularly enjoyed the assorted custom t-shirts with playful phrases like “You Had Me At Bacon,” “I (beer mug) Bacon,” and “Dads Are Like Bacon They Make Everything Better” (perfect for Father’s Day). It was delightful to see others showcasing their love for bacon around the event.

During our time there, we also ensured we enrolled in the complimentary Farmland Bacon Club for a chance to win a year’s supply of bacon. Signing up was quick and easy, allowing us ample time to sample other delicious treats before heading to the main stage!

My son was there to defend his title from the 2015 Bacon Eating Contest alongside eight fellow bacon aficionados. Each contestant was presented with a plate of 30 bacon pieces, and the challenge was to finish first.

An intense competition unfolded; my son was trailing slightly behind the leader, Dennis Montgomery, and opted to go all out, shoving the remaining pieces from his plate into his mouth.

Ultimately, Dennis managed to clear his entire plate in under two minutes, claiming the trophy and a year’s worth of Farmland Bacon.

It truly was an enjoyable experience at the West Bottoms in Kansas City. The combination of live music, refreshing beer, and our beloved bacon ensured a memorable weekend.
